Sylvia Ferguson has been practicing yoga consistently for over 35 years and has been teaching yoga for over 25 years.
Her classes are very supportive, nurturing, invitational and fun. She incorporates awareness of breath and coordination of movements with the flowing breath. This helps bring one’s awareness inwards and to get in touch with more subtle layers of our being.
She uses yoga, pranayama, meditation and Yoga Nidra to calm the nervous system and ensures that there is a lovely relaxed and safe environment in her classes.
Her teaching is designed to guide you towards feeling grounded, spacious and calm.
Sylvia began practicing yoga in her 20’s and also used to practice in the gym when she was living in the fast lane. She already noticed signs of stress in her body from the gym.
She was intrigued with the yoga, but also felt challenged to be able to let go rather than pushing herself as in the gym work.
“It took me a while to get it! I loved the burn of the gym, the feeling in my body of heart thumping and muscles aching. This felt different, almost like it was a bit of a waste of my time. But there was intrigue! “
Sylvia trained with Yoga Therapy Ireland in her late 20’s which was a 2 year teacher training.
Underpinned with the richness of Yoga philosophy and embodied with a strong grounding in Anatomy and Physiology the Yoga Therapy Ireland Yoga Teacher Training course fully prepared me to be an inclusive, safe and adventurous Yoga teacher.

At the time I found the required reading in philosophy and the extensive anatomy course to be challenging, but it provided me with a wonderful launch-pad for my further studies and the many courses and workshops I have since undertaken.
Since then Sylvia has practiced many types of yoga including Ashtanga Vinyasa and Anusara yoga as well as traditional hatha yoga.
Sylvia has completed a 2 year Masters of Science in Mindfulness Based Interventions and she weaves mindfulness and compassion into all of her classes.
Her yoga and meditation classes are easy to follow and the benefits spill over onto one’s everyday life rather than remaining on the yoga mat.
Sylvia – “Meditation has a profound effect on the nervous system, leading to more relaxed and content states of mind which ultimately improve one’s happiness and have a positive effect on every aspect of one’s life”

Sylvia’s classes are a lovely balance of quiet and calming practices, and also some strengthening and provide an opportunity to explore, try something new and emerge feeling empowered and refreshed.
She loves to bring a playful energy to her classes, and helps one to let go and to feel the nervous system relaxing as one begins to let go into the present moment… and to simply Be.
She teaches Yoga Nidra where you be by lying down, and Sylvia will guide you to a state which is often describes as being half asleep and half awake. This is a very deep healing state where you can let go of unconscious tension and also can guide your inner self to bring about positive changes in your life.
The benefits of Yoga Nidra include stress relief, enhanced sleep quality and improved mental clarity.
Her classes are suitable for all ages from 14 to 80’s, men and women, completely fit or unfit, complete beginners to experienced yogis. Her soothing calm voice will guide you through the postures.
Sylvia is a very experienced teacher and has taught many yoga teacher training courses herself over the years.
She extends a warm welcome to you, and looks forward to meeting you on her retreat.
